Clonmany Community Games
Well done to all the children from the Parish who competed in the Donegal finals of the Community Games last Sunday in Milford. Five competitors came away with Gold medals on the day; Austin Doherty for the u8’s hurdles; Luke Devlin, u8’s 80m; David McLaughlin for the u12’s 100m; Stephen Friel for the u14’s 100m; Conor Collins u16’s 100m. The lads will now compete in the Community Games all Ireland finals in Mosney. Silver medallists on the day included; Connie-Ann Hession in the u12 600m; Conor Collins, Andrew Doherty, Daithí Hession and Kevin McCarron for the u16 relay; Kevin McCarron for the high jump. Bronze medals were won by Andrew Doherty for the u16 discus; Connie-Ann Hession, Paula McLaughlin, Marie Harkin and Gráinne Hession for the u12 girls relay; David McLaughlin, Aaron Devlin, Michael Devlin and Gary Doherty for the u12 boys relay. Well done again to all our competitors and to all the helpers and parents who travelled to Milford to watch and support them.

Councillor Padraig MacLochlainn would like express sincere thanks to everyone in the Parish of Clonmany who voted for him for him in last week’s general election. He would also like to acknowledge the selfless dedication of his canvass and poster team in the parish. Whilst failing to make it into the Dail Councillor MacLochlainn would like to ensure the people of Clonmany that his efforts to provide better services on their behalf will still continue undaunted. Upcoming events; On Saturday June 9 there will be a Car boot sale in the Clonmany N.S. Playground. On Friday July 6 in the Clonmany Hall there will be a Ceili Mor. Everyone is urged to come along and support these events. It’s a bit of craic and all money raised is going towards the essential equipment and furniture for our new school.
Clonmany Agricultural Show
There will be a Committe meeting in The Ballyliffin Hotel on Tuesday May 29 at 9pm. The Grant Golf Classic on the Old Links at the Ballyliffin Golf Club on Saturday June 16. There is €3,500 in prizes which have been kindly sponsored by the Ballyliffin Hotel. For more details contact Ballyliffin Golf Club.
Urris Clean-Up
The Urris Local History Group, in conjunction with Donegal County Council, are placing skips in four locations throughout Urris. They will be placed at Leenan Beach car Park, Urris Church Car Park, Tiernasligo N.S. and Roxtown. The Skips are part of a clean-up attempt to keep the Urris area tidy. A fundraising draw for this cause will take place on June 30 and tickets are currently on sale throughout the parish. Support for this worthwhile local cause will be greatly appreciated.
VHI Cúl Camp
This year’s GAA Summer Camp will take place on the week of July 9 to July 13. Once again VHI are sponsoring the camps and all children participating will receive a specially designed O’Neill’s kit and kitbag at the end of the week. The children will learn football, hurling and camogie skills from the best coaches in the County, as well as getting the chance to meet some of the Donegal National League winning team when they bring the trophy to the camp. This year’s camp will cost €60 for the first child and €40 per child after that. To ensure your child’s place at the camp make sure you book early. Application forms should have been given to all children at school over the past week but are also obtainable by calling John Friel on 9376533.
The Four Charity Golf Classic
The will be a Golf Classic at Ballyliffin Golf Club, with over €3,000 in prizes, on Friday, June 1, in aid of four local charities, Inishowen Disability Action Group, Inishowen Women’s Outreach, White Oaks, Radharc Na Sleibhte SRU Carndonagh. PLC Course
PLC Course in Carndonagh Community School
The Post Leaving Certificate Department (PLC) is offering a course in Business Administration with
Tourism in the academic year 07/08 (FETAC LEVEL 5). The course consists of modules in Administration, Word and Text Processing, Accounting Spreadsheets, Databases and Communications. Work placement in local business firms is also included. PLC students may also repeat Leaving Certificate Maths while doing this course. Mature students can also apply. Students who complete PLC courses will greatly improve their chances of gaining direct employment or progressing to Third Level education. Successful completion of our course this year may allow students to gain direct entry to Business degree courses in Institutes of Technology such as LYIT irrespective of their Leaving Certificate results. Students may also progress to degree courses in other disciplines. Applications forms are available in the school, or by calling 9374260.
Clonmany Youth Club and Community Centre
Clonmany Youth and Community Centre, in collaboration with Inishowen Partnership Company, Tuath and Letterkenny Institute of Technology, is delighted to announce plans to deliver the Higher Certificate of Arts in Communities Studies in Inishowen. Subject to numbers, the course is planned for September 2007 and will run over two years based in Clonmany. An information evening will take place on Wednesday, May 23rd at 7.30pm at the Clonmany Youth and Community Centre. This will give people an opportunity to meet members of LYIT’s staff and learn more about the course. Recycling Awareness
Susanne Tinney, Donegal County Council Recycling Awareness Officer was at the Library last night to give tips on how to recycle and use your compost. Gareth Austin, leading Horticulturist from the Courtyard Lifestyle Centre will give a talk on seasonal planting and this will be followed by a massive plant sale. On Thursday May 31, from 8.00pm – 9.30pm, Looking good - Feeling Good, Danielle Toner, Image Consultant will visit the library to talk about the importance of self-image. She will give tips on what colours and style would suit you. Danielle has a weekly column in the Inishowen Independent. All events are free of charge and everyone is welcome.
