Buncrana Notes - August 29th 2007
Local Destruction
The Buncrana Anglers association would appreciate the help of the general public in combating the damage caused on the river by poachers. All wild salmon have to be tagged so if anyone is offered one that is not tagged then it must have been taken illegally. The Crana river attracts many tourist annually and provides and excellent amenity for locals we cannot allow it to be jeopardized.
Car Treasure Hunt
The recently held car treasure hunt was a great evenings entertainment and thanks to those who organized the event. The proceeds go the RNLI.
Summer Hogmanay
Congratulations to Fr Eddie and his committee for their excellent organization of the Summer Hogmanay which attracted lots of tourists to the town. Links between Inishowen an Scotland go back a long way but unfortunately because of the troubles and cheap sun holidays the numbers of Scottish visitors have declined significantly. However, this innovative Summer Hogmanay may revive the links that previously existed. We hope this continues in the future.

Tidy Towns
Another example of community spirit was seen this week at the junction of Gransha road and the new road. Brian O’Sullivan, a man well known for his charity work, trimmed the assorted hedging on both sides of the road which resulted in a neat and tidy job. There are still a number of litter black spots in the town which need serious attention. On the subject of litter, it was interesting to read in a local newspaper recently that there is an emergency litter line which is available to anyone who wishes to report any litter blackspots or anyone who is seen littering. This line is offered by the EPA, environmental protection agency. Unfortunately the number was not given. If anyone has the number or can find it please contact the email at the bottom of these notes so that it can be given to the general public.
