All-Ireland finalist
Congratulations to Kieran O’Connor Farren, Slieveban who was competing at the National Boxing Finals at the National Stadium at the weekend. Kieran was competing in the 48kg category and won his semi-final 6-1, when he beat Gerard Mc Corley from Toome on Friday last. The final was held the following day where he met with Conor Mc Donald, a southpaw from Gorey, Co. Wexford, who defeated Kieran 14-5. This is Kieran’s first competition outside Ulster, where he is the reigning title holder at this weight. As runner-up for the national title in his category, Kieran received a medal and was also presented with a special boxing vest by the Amateur Boxing Association of Ireland. Kieran was accompanied to the finals by his parents Kelly Anne and Robert, and his brothers and sisters, and his coaches John Mulhern and Liam Owen of Carndonagh Boxing Club. His family express their gratitude to the coaches for their dedication.
Death
The death has taken place at Letterkenny General Hospital of Ellen Nora Doherty, Bree, Malin Head. She was aged 92 and was only a short time in hospital. Ellen Nora was a hardworking woman, who worked in both Belfast and Derry, before returning to work in Carndonagh. She worked for many years in Mc Carter’s Factory in Bree up until her retirement. Her only son Frankie took exemplary care of his mother in her later years. Ellen Nora’s remains were brought home to her late residence, and her funeral was held on Good Friday, March 21, to the Star of the Sea Church, Malin Head, for Liturgy of the Word. he service was conducted by Fr Brendan Crowley, CC assisted by Fr Tom Mullin. The Lessons were read by Margaret Glackin Haran. The Offertory Gifts were presented by Barbara Doherty and James Joseph Doherty. Burial took place in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lagg, Malin.
Requiem Mass for Ellen Nora was concelebrated by Fr Crowley, CC. and Fr Tom Mullin on Monday, March 24, in the Star of the Sea Church, Malin Head. The Lessons were read by Margaret Glackin Haran and the Offertory Gifts were presented by Barbara Doherty and James Joseph Doherty. Music and singing was rendered by Julie Anne Devlin.
Deepest sympathy is extended to Ellen Nora’s only son Frankie, her sister Brigid Collins, Manchester; her nieces Kathleen Toland and Margaret and Tony O’Kane; her nephews Edward Collins, Joe Snow, Patrick Snow and Matthew Snow; her cousins Mary Kathleen Brown, Margaret Mc Laughlin, Hannah Doherty, Margaret Haran, Ellen Glackin, Anne Doherty, Johnny Glackin and Laurence Glackin. Also to all her neighbours and friends.
Camera Club
The Camera Club Inishowen meets in Serenity House, Montgomery Terrace, Moville tomorrow Thursday, April 3 at 7.30 pm. The theme of the meeting is Black and White conventional photography. They are always delighted to welcome new members.

New Film
A movie set to be shot in Inishowen will feature Malin Head when it commences shooting on April 21. The Canad-based Sepia Films and Octagon Films Ireland will shoot A Shine of Rainbows, a family film. The film will be shot over 12 weeks and 66 people will be involved. The new movie will feature areas around Malin Head, the Isle of Doagh, Leenan and Buncrana.
Enrol for Urblereagh NS
Enrolment Forms for Urblereagh National School are now available at the school’s temporary location at the GAA Centre, Malin. Completed forms should be returned by this Friday, April 4.
Depression Support Group

Energy Saving Devices
The Care of the Aged groups in each Parish throughout Inishowen are distributing a limited supply of Lagging Jackets and Low Energy Light Bulbs that they received from Action Inishowen. Please contact your local Care of the Aged Group if you or someone you know would benefit from these Energy Saving Devices.
Sports Field Draw
Malin Head Community Sports Committee run a Draw for a weekly prize of €500. The draw on Saturday 29 March was held in Farrens’ Bar and the lucky winner was Breedge Doherty, (PM), Middletown, Malin Head. Next week’s draw will be held in the Crossroads Inn.
Carndonagh Feis
The Carndonagh Feis will be held this year on Friday 20, Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 of June. The Feis Syllabus will be sent out to all the local schools by mid-March and the closing date for entries will be Friday, May 2 and could all cups/shields be returned on or by that day to Karen Mc Laughlin Malin Road, Carndonagh 087 2987370 (200 yards down the Malin Road from the roundabout on left hand side with red front door.)
Confirmation
Confirmation will be conferred on sixth class pupils in the Malin parish on Sunday, April 13 at 11am in St Patrick’s Church, Aughaclay.
Senior Ladies GAA Training
Training for Senior Ladies is held on every Saturday at 5pm in the GAA Centre, Malin. All ladies welcome.
Whist
The weekly Whist has a new venue. The Whist, which is held every Monday night at 8pm, will be held in St Mary’s National School, Malin Head while renovations get underway in Malin Head Community Hall.

GAA Membership
Malin GAA Club membership for 2008 is now due, and will be collected in the next few weeks. Membership is 10 euro per adult, 2 euro per minor and 20 euro for family membership. Club members will have priority for tickets for Donegal games. Kevin Farren will collect the Malin Head area; David Gallagher and Patrick Collins will do the Culdaff area; Patrick and Shaun Houton will do the Culkeeny/Glengad areas and Martin Mc Colgan will cover Malin Town.
GAA Opening
The Grand Opening of the GAA Centre in Malin has been set for Sunday 4 May, the May Bank Holiday weekend. An Inishowen Select side will play the Donegal senior team in honour of the occasion.
