World premiere for Inishowen?
Hollywood actors shine in Inishowen The world premiere of the blockbuster film currently being shot on location in Inishowen could take place in the peninsula.Filming of “A Shine of Rainbows” is taking place in a number of locations in the area. Starring Hollywood heart-throb Aidan Quinn, of “Michael Collins “ and “Legends of the Fall” fame, and Danish actress, Connie Nielsen, it features a number of young local actresses and extras recruited from throughout the region.Speaking on the set of the film in Malin on Monday, director, Vic Sarin, could not confirm where the movie would be premiered, however, he did not rule out Inishowen.He said: “I am 99% sure the world premiere will be in Donegal.”And he paid tribute to Aideen Doherty, of the County Council.“ We are very grateful to the people of Donegal, especially Aideen, it was her who attracted us to come here, it was her energy and enthusiasm that pulled us here.”He added: “The people is what makes a place, I love the Irish people, they are the biggest draw to the country.”Star of the show Aidan Quinn was happy to answer any questions thrown at him by the media.Speaking of his love for Ireland he revealed he had strong Donegal connections. “My godmother is actually from Donegal,” he said.He also revealed he enjoyed visiting the local pubs, especially the Persian Bar in Carndonagh.Connie Nielsen, who is being accompanied by her one-year-old son, Bryce, revealed early inhibitions about coming to Inishowen were quickly expelled by the friendliness of the locals. Speaking in a newly acquired Donegal accent, she said: “It’s lovely here, I am having a great time shooting the film, I was scared at first but everyone has been so nice, I’ve had a grand time.”Aideen Doherty said making the making of the film in Inishowen was the perfect way to promote the whole of Doengal.She said: “This is great for our county, we want to show people Donegal is not inaccessable, we are not a million miles away from civilisation, we can do things like this. We have been extremely lucky with the weather, Donegal is looking the best it ever has right now.”Based on a novel by Lillian Beckwith “A Shine Of Rainbows’ tells the story of how a lonely orphan meets an extroadinary women who teaches him to discover the magic in nature and himself.
