Muff man ordained priest

Inishowen’s newest priest celebrated his first Mass in the Sacred Heart Church, Muff, on Monday night last when he was joined by family, friends and neighbours. Many of those at the Mass were among the 800 who attended the ordination of Fr. Daniel McFaul by the principal celebrant, Bishop of Derry, Most Rev. Dr. Seamus Hegarty, in St. Eugene’s Cathedral on Sunday afternoon.Also participating at the ordination were Most. Rev. Dr. Francis Lagan, Auxiliary Bishop of Derry, Mons. Joseph Donnelly and 70 priests from throughout the diocese.Music for the ceremony was provided by the cathedral choir under the direction of Sr. Perpetua McNulty with Conor McLaughlin on the organ.  Daniel’s brother and sister, Michael and Donna Marie, read the first and second Readings while his parents, James and Eileen, presented the bread and wine to the Bishop.The new priest was vested by Fr. John Farren, parish priest of Iskaheen and Upper Movile and Fr. Seamus Kelly, parish priest, Culmore. A former joiner and banqueting manager, the 33-year-old is a former pupil of Scoil Mhuire Brid in Muff and Buncrana Technical College (now Crana College).Fr. McFaul was ordained a deacon in November 2006 and completed his Bachelor of Divinity in Maynooth College, Dublin,  in May the following year.Fr. McFaul said he first thought about joining the priesthood in the 1980s when he served as an altar boy in Iskaheen for Fr. McShane.He paid tribute to the support he received from Bishops Hegarty, Lagan and Daly, Fr. Seamus Kelly, Muff parish priest Fr. Paul Farren and former Iskaheen parish priest Monsignor Donnelly as well as Fr. Colm Morris, Fr. Tony Mailey, and Fr. Ryder who have close connections to Iskaheen. His mother, Eileen, said his ordination brought a great sense of pride to his family and the entire Muff community.”I am so thankful to God that Daniel is so happy. I feel that it is a real blessing in our lives.”Parish Priest Fr. John Farren said the ordination was a “very joyful occasion” for the McFaul family and the whole parish.He added: “On behalf of everyone I want to wish Daniel every happiness for his life in the priesthood.”
