Foreign Missions Leprosy Fund The organisers of the recent church gate collection for the leprosy fund wish to thank all who contributed so generously. The amount raised was 836 euro. A special “Thank You” to the volunteers who manned the collection points

Foundations in Liturgy There is a course starting on 7th October and ends April 2009. This course is designed to foster an understanding of the richness of the Liturgy of the Church. It will consider the main Feasts and Seasons of the Church’s Year and examine the core elements and symbols of our rituals.  The course will further our appreciation of the mystery of salvation as experienced through the celebration of the paschal mystery of the death and resurrection of Jesus, the Christ. Full cost of course is £180 payable as a one-off payment or by term-instalments. Good Morning Inishowen needs more Volunteers Do you have a couple of hours to spare once a week? Would you like to get involved in your local community? Are you a good listener? Would you like to learn new skills and meet new People? Do you enjoy talking to Older People? GAA The u14 boys defeated St Eunans on Wednesday to secure a place in the final of the Northern Board division 2 competition. The annual hurling summer camp runs from 18th August to 22nd August. There is a reduced rate for having attended earlier camps.  The winning numbers in the club mini-lotto were 6, 4, 21, 20 and 1. There was no jackpot winner. The 75 Euro went to Elaine Doherty, Cregnahorna, Carn; 30 Euro to Annemarie McColgan, Bunn, Glengad; 15 Euro to Teish Doherty, Church Road, Carn. Frank Skinnader, Emyvale and Kelsey Burke, Carn. The jackpot next week is 3100 Euro and the draw will be held in the Persian Bar.

Carn FC Under 10 training takes place in St Patrick’s Park every Wednesday at 6 pm.  All players already registered are asked to attend training as the Inishowen Blitz commences on Saturday, 23rd August. Senior training continues every Tuesday and Friday at 7pm. New faces are always welcome. The Carn FC golf classic took place last Saturday, with a large entry the day was a great success with even the weather holding out! The club would like to thank all our supporters and sponsors for their continued generosity and also all who helped put up the signage. a special word of thanks to Pat McLaughlin (W) for fixing all storm damaged signs on the day.

Lourdes Pilgrimage

Derry Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes led by Most Rev. Dr. Francis Lagan, Auxiliary Bishop of Derry, takes place 16 – 21 July.  Fare £449.  Booking forms available in Parochial House.

The Diocesan will also be taking a youth group, aged 20-35, to experience these days of celebration. 

 

Lough Derg Retreat

Blowing in the Wind

The pupils of St. Patrick’s Girls’ N.S. under the direction of their teachers and visiting artist, Mhairi Sutherland, have been busy for the past week creating works of art with the theme “Blowing in the Wind”, for an art exhibition which is now on display in Supervalu.

 

Host Families for Spanish Students due to visit Carndonagh in July are urgently required.  Students will attend school daily Monday – Friday and host families will get an allowance of 185 euro per week.  If interested please contact Ailish Tully at 93 74938 ASAP

 

PLC Course in Carndonagh Community School has a few places available in Business Administration with Tourism in the academic year 08/09 (FETAC Level 5).  The course consists of modules in Administration, word and text processing, accounting, spreadsheets, databases and communications. Local work placement is included.  PLC students may also repeat Leaving Cert Maths, during this course. This course will be of interest to Students with a Leaving Cert who wish to progress to Third level but who have inadequate CAO points, individuals who wish to improve employment chances and Mature student wishing to return to education. Alzheimer’s Tea day in the Wesley Hall,  proceeds amounted to 1145.50 euro.  Thanks to Carndonagh Active Retirement who ran this event and to all the people who supported it.

 

Fun Day

The Carndonagh Parents Committee are running a “Fun Day” in the Gym on Sunday  May 25, from 2- 5 pm. Come along and get your face painted, score that penalty goal, relax to the live music, get your fortune told, buy that bargain at the car boot sale, forget the diet and enjoy the light tea and refreshments and afterwards, work it all of in the bouncy castle.

 

 

The AGM of Carndonagh ICA took place on Tuesday May 13, in the Wesley Hall.  The present committee were re elected for a further year.  Names were taken for attendance at the Fun night in Muff, the Federation meeting in Raphoe and the social evening in the Ballyliffin Hotel.  Arrangements were made for staffing the proposed Good as New and the Agricultural Show.  The president Mary McLaughlin congratulated the guild in coming second in the recent Guild of the Year competition in Letterkenny and  Margaret Lafferty won the raffle.
