Sliabh Sneacht Challenge

The Annual Sliabh Sneacht Challenge bike race and Hill climb for the Eamonn Noone Memorial Perpetual Trophy at the North Pole bar takes place this Sunday May 4 at 2pm. Leisure cyclists, walkers or hill climbers are very welcome to come along on the day. For more information call 9363844

Alzheimer’s tea day

Charity Auction

In aid of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Research to be held in Tully’s Bar, Carndonagh on Sunday, May 4 starting at 6pm.  Many items to be auctioned including a helicopter ride, signed sporting and showband memorabilia, a full day pass to Rally School Ireland, weekend breaks, VIP ticket to Villa Park.

Come along and treat yourself or a loved one to a fantastic present while helping a very worthy cause.

 

Camera Club Inishowen 

A meeting of the Camera Club Inishowen will take place on Thursday, May 1 in Serenity House, Moville starting at 7.30pm. All welcome to join or to just visit us.

Our annual presentation dance and draw takes place on Sunday, May 4. First prize in the draw is 10,000 euro cash with many other valuable prizes. Amongst the prizes are : a  trip for 2 to Las Vegas; a week for 2 in Portugal;  a 46 inch TV; a year’s membership for 2 at Ballyliffin Lodge and Spa; the hire of a marquee with food supplied for 40 people; a lap top computer; a weekend for 2 in Paris and a mountain bike. Tickets are priced at €130 – with a meal for 2 on each ticket.  They are now on sale from committee members.

 

Community Games

Athletics training now on in the Community centre every Wednesday evening at 7pm sharp. Children must be age 7 years and over. Admission is  2 euro.

Carndonagh Community School Reunion

The monthly talk will be held on Monday, April 28 in Wesley Hall, Carndonagh at 8pm. The topic is rockery design and it will be given by Gordon Toner.

 

25 Card Drives

The weekly cards at Cloontagh school have now finished for the summer and will start again in November. We would like to thank everyone who supported the cards over the winter months.

 

Cots and Tots

Amanda and her staff at the Creche would like to thank everyone who helped raise 4,300 euro on pyjama day for Muscular Dystrophy Ireland and Crumlin Hospital for sick children in Dublin.

Treasure Hunt

All you treasure hunters out there should get yourselves ready for the Inishowen 100 Pub Treasure Hunt in aid of Lough Swilly Lifeboat on Saturday, April, 12. Registration takes place at the Square Bar, Clonmany at 2.30pm with the bus leaving Clonmany at around 3.pm. Treasure hunters in cars are also welcome to take part – registration for cars will finish at 4pm. There are no time constraints on the treasure hunt with your answers deciding the winners. All prizes have been sponsored. The bus will return to Clonmany at approximately 10pm - the results will be given at approximately 11.30pm also in the Square Bar. The cost of the event is as follows: 30 euro per person on the bus which includes the treasure hunt, spot prizes on the bus and a light bite on the way. People participating in cars are 40 euro per car. All seats on the bus must be booked in advance. Urris Easter draw

The winners in the Urris Easter Draw were:

first prize of the giant hamper went to Mary K Brennan, Clonmany; the second prize of a meal for two in the Laurentic went to Oisin Ward, Tornabratley and the third prize of a giant Easter egg went to Shane Ward of Tornabratley. The club would like to thank everyone who bought tickets and to all the club members who sold them.

 

Community centre

There will be no children’s activities over the Easter period. Activities will resume again on Monday, March 31. The Vibe Disco is on Friday, March 28 from 9 to 11.30pm. Admission is  8 euro for non-members and 5 euro for members.The centre is offering a part-time Fáilte Ireland training course in hospitality skills. The course will be two days per week from 10am to 3pm for 10 weeks. The course is available everyone over 18 with the required residency status. Attendance allowance is 15 euro per day and does not affect social welfare payments. Lunch/uniform are also provided. Information session in the Clonmany Community Centre on Tuesday, April 1 at 8pm. Flights for sale

Due to unforeseen circumstances, five return flights from City of Derry to Liverpool have become available, leaving City of Derry on Friday, April 11 and returning on Sunday, April 13. Resource centre

There will be no children’s activities over the Easter period from Monday, March 17. Activities will resume again on Monday, March 31. The Centre will be closed on Friday ,March 21 and Monday March 24.  The Vibe Disco is on Friday, March 28 from 9–11.30pm. Admission is 8 euro for non-members and 5 euro for members. The Resource Centre is offering a part-time Fáilte Ireland training course in hospitality skills. The course will be two days per week from 10am to 3pm for 10 weeks. Sheepdog association

Clonmany Agricultural Sheepdog Association’s 25 card drive continues every Monday night in The Ballyliffin Hotel at 8.30pm. The association’s annual card drive takes place in the Ballyliffin Hotel on Friday, March 21 at 9pm. There is a prize fund of 1,000 euro – 10 euro per round with refreshments served during the evening.

 

Festival agm

The agm of the Clonmany Festival Committee will be held in the Square Bar on Monday, March 31 at 9pm. It would be great to see some new blood on the committee this year and everyone is welcome to attend the meeting.

The Clonmany branch of the St Vincent de Paul’s Society is appealing for volunteers to work whatever hours suitable (morning or afternoon) in their charity shop  – Vincents. Clonmany tug-of-war

Good luck to the 26 members of the Clonmany Tug-of-war Club who will be travelling to Italy this week to take part in the World Championships (February 21 – 24). We wish them all every success and hopefully their hard work and dedication will pay off. Best wishes also the Carndonagh team who also take part.

Rasheny Grand Draw

The Rasheny FC annual presentation dance and draw takes place on Sunday, May 4. First prize in the draw is 10,000 euro cash with many other valuable prizes. Amongst the prizes are: a trip for 2 to Las Vegas; a week for 2 in Portugal; a 46 inch TV; a year’s membership for 2 at Ballyliffin Lodge and Spa; the hire of a marquee with food supplied for 40 people; a lap top computer; a weekend for two in Paris and a mountain bike. Tickets are priced at €130 euro – with a meal for two on each ticket. They are now on sale from committee members.

 

Winter nightclasses

Card Drive in aid of Bothair

Charity 25 Card Drive in Malin GAA Centre on Saturday, February 23 at 8.30pm, two rounds at 10 euro per round including supper. All proceeds to Bothair to buy cows, goats and hens for poor African families. Prizes are Easter bumper hampers, Easter eggs and other prizes on the night.

 

Daffodil Day

As Daffodil Day is on March 7 we would like your support for soprano Madelene Grant-Nelson, originally from Annagh, and a breast cancer survivor on buying her very beautiful and inspirational CD that she recorded recently. All proceeds will go to Action Breast Cancer (a project from the Irish Cancer Society and dedicated to all breast cancer survivors). The CD costs 15 euro and is on sale in Caitriona’s Shop, Glendowen Fashions and Irish Cancer Society Website.

 

Guest tea

There are still a few tickets available in Fintan’s newsagents for the Guest Tea on Friday, February 22 at Carndonagh Community School (CCS). This is going to be a very big event and anybody who wants tickets should get them immediately.

 

C.C.S. Has Got Talent

This show which was scheduled for January 31 and had to be postponed because of the bad weather will now take place on Thursday, February 28. The tickets sold for the January 31 show will be valid on February 28. Admission is by these tickets only and the show is completely sold out.

A job fair will take place in the Inishowen Gateway Hotel on Wednesday, March 5 from 10.30 am – 6.30 pm. Employers, why not use this opportunity to find the right person for your vacancy? Clonmany Community Games

Community Games cross-country training started on Monday and continues every Monday thereafter at the Shamrocks running track from 5 – 6pm. Children must be ten years or over. There is an admission charge of 2 euro to defray the cost of using the track.

 

Clonmany Youth Club and Community Resource Centre

Keep fit classes for ladies run on Monday mornings from 10 to 11am and Wednesday evening from 7 to 8.15pm. There is a men’s class on Wednesday evening from 8.30 to 9.30pm. Names now being taken for the following classes; basic computers, art, arts and crafts, patchwork, and Digital photography. Next months Car boot sale takes place on March 1 and on the first Saturday of the month after that.

 

Inishowen Reflexology Network group

Valentine’s disco

Clonmany Parents Association’s next fundraiser is a Valentine’s Golden Oldies Disco,  which will take place in the Ballyliffin Hotel on Saturday, February 16 at 11pm. Admission on the night is eight euro. All proceeds from the disco will go towards the purchase of new school equipment.

 

Reflexology course

On Friday, February 15 there will be a one-day reflexology course presented by Martina Barrett in the Community Centre from 9.30am to 5pm. There was a meeting in the Urris Clubhouse last nigh to discuss the future of the senior ladies’ football team. Parents’ Association
Clonmany Parents’ Association would like to thank everyone who supported the bazaar. The amount raised was 6,477 euro. The amount raised from the raffle of the pictures was 4,100 euro. The next fundraiser, a Valentine’s Golden Oldies Disco, will take place in the Ballyliffin Hotel on Saturday February 16 at 11pm. Admission on the night is eight euro. All proceeds from the disco will go towards the purchase of new school equipment.

Coaches needed
Coaches are still needed to help out with the underage Gaelic football teams, ladies are especially needed this year to give a hand with the girls teams. If you would like to help out then contact Paul McLaughlin on 9376752 or any Urris GAA Club Committee member as soon as possible. Training is available for anyone interested in helping out.

Ballyliffin Development Group is holding its 2nd Annual Fundraising Dinner Dance and Auction on Friday, January 25 at the Strand Hotel. Ballyliffin Golf Club AGM

Ballyliffin Golf Club’s 62nd AGM will take place in the golf club on Sunday, December 9 at 6pm. The Ballyliffin golf club road will be closed for bridge widening from Monday, December 10 – Wednesday, December 12 inclusive. The Golf pro shop sale starts December 1.

Summer school magazine

The McGlinchey Summer School magazine – It’s us they’re thinking about, No 10 – based on this year’s theme “Inishowen”: 1607 and all that…….” is being edited at present and will be available in March 2008. This tenth issue, the last in the present series, will complete a valuable record of local history and heritage of Clonmany and Inishowen. An absent family member or friend might appreciate a copy this Christmas. Copies of No. 9 and some earlier issues are still available in Caitríona’s Newsagent and other local shops.

 

Child Protection Course

Any adult who hopes to be involved in the management of youth/school teams or the supervision of any underage activities – soccer, gaelic, athletics, national school teams, youth club activities etc is required to hold a Child Protection Certificate. An opportunity for anyone interested in acquiring such a certificate is due to be held in St. Brigid’s Youth Club on Tuesday, December 11 at 7pm. The entire course will be delivered on the night. Christmas Bazaar
The Clonmany NS Parents Committee presents a Christmas Bazaar in St. Mary’s Hall, Clonmany on Sunday December 2 at 5pm after the lighting of Christmas lights in the Square. The Bazaar will feature handcrafts made by the children of Clonmany School. There will also be bric-a-brac; home-baking; the good ole rickety wheel with many fantastic prizes. There will also be a special appearance of Santa and his fire-engine. All proceeds in aid of new school equipment. Light refreshments will be served.

The James Connolly Day Centre
The Day centre will have a table at the car boot sale on Saturday December 1. There will be home made Christmas cakes and puddings, flower arrangements, bric-a-brac etc. and tickets will be on sale for a beautiful Christmas Hamper. Your support for this worthy cause would be greatly appreciated.

Mass for Deceased members
Ballyliffin Golf Club will hold its annual mass for Deceased members in the Clubhouse on Friday November 30 at 7pm.

Leargas is holding an information session on funding available under the Grundtvig Adult Education Programme on Tuesday 18th December at 12noon in the Inishowen Partnership offices (CAIT Suite).
