Moville Cultural Promotions

The organisers of the annual St Patrick’s Day parade would like to thank all those who helped make last Monday a memorable day in our community and brought huge crowds into the town. Some of the local media have presented Moville in a very unfair, sensational negative manner over the last few months while at the same time trying to generate advertising revenue from that same community, so let’s hope  their reporting of Monday’s events helps to redress that situation. A special word of thanks to all who entered floats which helped create a carnival atmosphere, bought tickets, made financial donations and helped with the stewarding and judging of floats. Many thanks to the civil defence and the gardaí, especially Garda Dermot Hegarty, who worked very closely with the committee regarding all the traffic arrangements. The presentation of prizes to the winners will take place in the Trawlerman bar at 9pm on Friday, March 28. The raffle will also take place and all tickets should be returned to the post office by today (Wednesday, March 26). Go raibh maith agaibh go leir.

Sad Passing

The death took place recently after a long illness of Michael McDermott, St Finian’s Park Moville. Michael worked in Bonner’s Shop on the Malin Road for 34 years where he earned great respect from the public for his honest and hard working manner. The esteem in which Michael was held was shown by the large attendance at the removal from Carndonagh Hospital, all the people who called to his home and the huge crowd who attended the  Funeral Mass in St Pius X, followed by his burial in St Mary’s Church in Bocan. Michael was a devoted husband, brother, father and grandfather. Deepest sympathy is extended to his dedicated wife Susan and his family Donal, Helene, Michael, Dermot, Joseph, Susan, Seamus, Maria, daughters in law and sons in law. May he rest in peace.
