Childcare workshop

‘Nurturing the Senses in the Young Child’ is the second in the Creating a Happy Childhood series of talks and workshops organised by Inishowen Kindergarten. Facilitated by early years specialist and author Dot Male, the talk will be held on Saturday, October 20, 10am-1pm (lunch optional) at Greenbank Hall near Quigley’s Point, Co. Donegal. It is a
unique opportunity for parents and childcare professionals.

Congratulations

Sympathy

July 9th, 2007

Deepest sympathy is extended to Margaret Mary McColgan, Iskaheen on the death of her sister Anne Doherty, O’Gara Villas, Moville, who died in the Donegal Hospice recently.

Sympathy is also extended to her husband Raymond, her parents Harry and Peggy McGonagle, Moville, also to her children Brendan, Cain and Aina, her brother Seamus and sister Irene.

Requiem Mass was celebrated in St Pius X Church, Moville and burial took place in Ballybrack graveyard.

May she rest in peace.

GAA Lotto

The numbers drawn in last week’s GAA Lotto were 1, 7, 3, 4, 2, 6 & 5.

There was no jackpot winner, however four runner up prizes of 25 euro went to:

Next week’s jackpot will be 4,000 euro. Tickets are available in all local businesses.

Muff Notes - June 27th 2007

Circus Skills
Calling all children and adults. Want to learn some circus skills? Learn how to juggle, face paint, walk on stilts and much more?Then come along to Quigley’s Point Community Centre on Saturday the 28th July. We are hosting a training workshop for children and any brave adults! who want to learn circus/festival skills. This workshop is run in association with the Muff Festival and all skills learned will be showcased at the festival during the weekend starting 3rd August. We will also be making puppets and carnival art pieces for display at the festival during the summer scheme. Anybody who is considering putting the float in the parade will benefit from these workshops. We will have facilitators and experienced community artists courtesy of the Playhouse, Derry and a supply of spare materials which may be useful for floats (courtesy of the “Source Project”)

Mayoral Programme
Mayoral Candidate Neal (Bomber) Toye’s programme for this week is Thursday 28th Fortune Teller in Foody’s Lodge, Quigley’s Point, Friday 29th 45 Card Drive in Mary Deeney’s, afterwards Irish night in the GAA Centre, Ture and coming up is the Booze Cruise on Friday 13th July. Tickets are going fast for this event. Neil ran a very successful quiz in Callaghan’s Bar, Quigley’s Point on Friday week last, after a tie break round the winning team was Ray Tumney, Paul Forester,Anne Toye, Martina Gill, Paddy Devlin and Eddie McLaughlin, he would like to thank all who helped organise the quiz, the QuizMaster John Gill and the helpers who sold raffle tickets and bought refreshments.

Church Gate Collection
Iskaheen and Upper Moville Care of the Aged Committee are holding their annual church gate collection on week ending 30th June/1st July. Do give generously to this worthy cause.

Back to Back
Don’t forget the 3000 euro Back to Back competition this Saturday 30th in Mary Deeney’s, when Mary Deeney’s take on the Cruisers, competition starts at 9pm sharp. Wedding
The wedding took place recently in St Patrick’s Church, Iskaheen of Angela McColgan, daughter of Martin and Myra McColgan, The Garrison, Iskaheen and Stephen Grant, son of Martin and Nora Grant, Ballymagan, Buncrana. The matron of honour was Sharon Cassidy and the bridesmaids were Danielle and Michelle McColgan, sisters of the bride. The Best man was Damien Grant, brother of the groom and the Groomsmen were John Porter and Brian Loughrey, both friends of the groom. Nuptial Mass was celebrated by Father John Farren PP and the music in the church was supplied by the Brogan family. The reception was held in the Gateway Hotel, Buncrana. The honeymoon is being spent touring America.

Bingo
Bingo continues every Saturday night in St Mary’s Community Hall at 9:15pm. Your support for community bingo is appreciated.

Annual Flag Day
The last meeting of the Muff branch of Apostolic Workers before the Summer recess took place on Tuesday night last when preparations were made to hold their annual Flag Day on July 14th. Keep this date in mind, flag sellers will be outside most of the business premises in Muff on that date- so do give generously, all monies raised going to the missions.

Coffee Evening
To celebrate National Carer’s Week, the Inishowen Group are holding a coffee evening in the Pastoral Centre, Carndonagh on Friday 15th June from 7pm until 9pm. All welcome. A small donation would be appreciated.

Information evening
The Muff Sheltered Housing Assoc Ltd are holding an information evening in Foody’s Lodge in Quigley’s Point on Wednesday June 20th. There will be a talk about the purpose and size of the project and an opportunity to ask questions. Tea/Coffee and biscuits served. Time from 8pm until 9:30pm. Everyone is welcome.

Summer Youth Festival
Knock is the venue for a Summer Youth Festival to take place from Saturday 26th to Sunday 29th July. It is an opportunity for young people take time out and reflect on their lives. Cost is on a donation basis with accomodation and food provided. Contact Ann on 9388100 or Sheena on 016753690

Training
The Inishowen Partnership is organising training with HSE around Suicide Awareness. The HS ASSIST training will take place on Tuesday 26th/Wednesday 27th June from 10am-3:30pm in the Wesley Hall, Carndonagh

Information Evening
There will be a Parish Child Protection Information Evening in St Mary’s Community Hall on Tuesday 19th June at 8pm. All who work in the parish in any capacity are invited to attend. Parents/ guardians of altar servers and of junior choir members are also most welcome. The information evening may be of use to any group in the parish working with children and young people

Photo Competition
All you budding photographers-don’t forget this year’s photo competition, run in conjunction with the Muff Festival- under 16’s and open. Categories are action/ sport, around Inishowen and general. Leave your photos with all details at Eurostyle in Muff before the end of July

Reunion
A reunion for all past pupils who started Thornhill in 1980 will take place in the City Hotel, Derry on Satursay 13th October. If interested tel 04871345047

Friday Club
All older members of the community, please note, there is a change in time for those attending or wishing to attend the Friday Club, which is held in St Mary’s Community Hall. Time now is from 2:00pm until 4:30pm. This Friday, there will be a speaker to give advice on Welfare Rights and Benefits. Please make an effort to come along, you will meet up with your friends, have a cup of tea and a chat-the group are anxious to hear your views on what you would like to see happening at the Friday Club

QPS Lotto
The numbers drawn in last week’s Quigley’s Point Swifts mini lotto were 1,3,8,9,11 and 15. There was no jackpot winner. Cora and Orla c/o Mae McColgan, matched 5 numbers and win 60 euro. This week’s jackpot will be 710 euro. The Fun Football is on at the usual time on Saturday at 12:30pm on the astro turf and the re-match with Culmore Academy is down from Saturday 16th June at 12:00 o clock

Congratulations
The same two lady members of the Muff ICA have once again scooped top prizes at the recent Bonagee Show, namely Carol Lynch and Olive Parke who between them won five firsts, four seconds and two thirds for their soft toys, embroidery, patchwork, knitting, needlework and flower arrangement. Sponsored Cycle
Don’t forget the “John Lynch Perpetual Shield” to be donated for the annual sponsored cycle this Friday 1st June. Cyclists to assemble at the Ture Inn at 6:30pm sharp, going to Rawden’s Bar, Moville. Sponsor sheets available from Shaun Lynch, Culmore, McColgan’s Butchers and Ture Inn. A voucher for either a ladies of gents bicycle will be given to the person with the most sponsor money.

Irish Language Group

The Muff Irish Language Group continue to meet in St Mary’s Community Hall at 5:30pm on Tuesday evenings. Failte Roimh Chach!

GAA Lotto

The numbers drawn in last week’s GAA Lotto were 7,6,5,4,3,1,2. There was no jackpot winner, however 100 euro runner-up prize went to Maggie McLaughlin, Glackmore. This week’s jackpot stands at 3,750 euro. Congratulations to the Whitecastle girls who won the County title last week, unfortunately the boys were unable to complete the double as they were defeated in the final.

Friday Club
The Friday club for older members of the community continues every Friday morning in St Mary’s Community Hall from 10:30am-12:30pm. Ann Gill from ”Good Morning Inishowen” will be in attendance next Friday to give details of services available, so do come along to meet up with other people, enjoy the craic, even try it out for one Friday and see what’s in it for you-feel free to say what you would like included in the sessions.

Thank You
The Muff Branch of the I.C.A would like to say a big “Thank You” to all who supported their recent Fun Run/Walk on Sunday week last. The amount raised for breast cancer research was 942 euro.

Sports Flash!

A large crowd gathered in Muff Main street on Friday when cyclists competing in the FBD Insurance Ras passed through, they were there to cheer local boy Ronan McLaughlin, son of Carl and Sandra McLaughlin, Kilderry. To have reached this stage in the race was a great achievement. Congratulations and well done Ronan.
