Music was by White Lightning. Best wishes from all their family and friends.

Wedding

July 9th, 2007

The wedding took place on Friday 29th June in the Church of All Saints, Newtowncunningham of Marcella Mc Menamin, Moyle, Newtowncunningham  and Declan Smith, Strabane. 

The Nuptiel Mass was celebrated by Fr. Neil Carlin.  The bride was given away by her mother Collette.  The bride was attended by her sisters, chief bridesmaid  Olyvia Murray, Lisa Kelly and friend Charleen Mc Elhinney.  The bestmen were, Shaun Doherty, Joe Deans and Niall Doherty.         

The flower girl  was Ieshe Kelly  and the page boy was Ryan Mc Menamin.   The lessons were read by Geraldine and Shaun Mc Menamin.  The gifts were brought to the alter by Collette and Maryann, mothers of the bride and groom.
The music and hymnes were provided by Edel and Elaine Burke and Caroline McNamee.
The couple, with family and friends enjoyed a lovely reception in Jackson’s Hotel, Ballybofey.
They are on honeymoon in the Dominican Republic.

Newtowncunningham Notes - June 27th 2007

Ceili
There will be a Ceili in the Columban Hall, Newtowncunninhgam on Friday 29th June. Dancing from 10pm–1am. Music by Cottage Ceili Band. Admission including supper € 5. Proceeds in aid of Multiple Sclerosis, Donegal Branch.

Birth
Congratulations to Tina and John Cannon, Deerpark on the birth of their baby girl.

GAA
This year’s GAA summer camp will take place from the 16th-20th of July. Every child taking part will recieve an O’Neill’s kit and bag. Graveyard Mass
The Graveyard Mass takes place on Saturday 21st July at 7:30pm.

Bowls for Beginners
There will be bowls for beginners ( over 14 years) in Pairc Cholmcille on Friday 29th June at 8pm. Everyone welcome. Under 16 year olds must have parental consent.

Killea FC
Killea lotto was not won this week. The consolation prizes went to Breege Lynch, Nixons Corner, Patrick O’Donnell, Kildrum, Damien Campbell, c/o Bennigans Bar, and Christina Hannigan, Newtown. Next week’sjackpot is 2050.
The senior team presentation was held in the Brewery, Letterkenny. Rory (Hen) Callaghan got top goalscorer and Caolan McGettigan Player of the Year.
The new season for the seniors will kick off in August as the Ulster Senior League has voted for to try summer football.

GAA

NCDI Youth Forum
The youth forum were interviewed by BBC radio 4 this week for their serious on bridging Social Capitial. Mark Eson, reporter asked them about their cross border activities with the Ballymena group and how they managed to build such a successful relationship. It will be aired on the 14th of June.

NCD
September courses! NCDI are currently taking names for various courses. Computer Classes, Stress Management, Conversational French, Parenting Skills, Art Classes to commence in September ‘07. Call to register on 074 9156898 to register your interest.

9th Donegal Scouts
The 9th Donegal Scouts are having a Supper dance to celebrate their 30th Anniversary ( 1977–2007) in Pairc Cholmcille, Newtowncunningham on 16th June ‘07, at 9pm. Admission € 12:50 Music by Swingtime. They would like to invite the children of the community to their fun day on 16th June, 2–5pm, in Pairc Cholmcille. Children must be accompanied by an adult to attend this event.

Whist
Well done to the Thursday night whist players who raised € 325 for the building fund. Thanks to Gerry and the teamakers. The whist is on every Thursday night in the Columban Hall from 8:30—11pm.

St Patrick’s Day Parade
A very disappointing turnout for the public meeting held by the St. Patrick’s Day Parade committee on Wednesday the 6th of June has led to the cancellation of next years parade. The committee agreed that it was obvious that the community were not interested in the continuation of the parade so therefore they had no option but to resign from this committee. The group have decided to stay together to organise the Christmas lights and the Santa evening for the children. This event will take place as usual.

Newtowncunningham Notes - June 6th 2007

Killea Football Club
Killea lotto not won this week. The 20 euro prizes were won by Hugh Dillon, Killea, Patricia O’Donnell, Carrig Inn, and Linda Bowen, Carrig Inn. Next week’s jackpot is 1950.
Killea/Newtown Soccer Academy continues with lots of activities.
The impact of the academy in the area is shown by the number of schools and colleges that our members attend, 19 in total , all living in the parish with a couple of exceptions.
Fees are two euro at home and three euro away.
Last Friday the u12 team played Institute girls winning 6-4.
Our u18s picked up the Fair Play trophy in the Donegal Youth League, we were represented at the function to receive the award by Declan Moore,
In the Ulster Senior League last match of the season we travelled to Keadue and drew 1-1, our equaliser was scored by Rory Feeney from our u18s side and he was joined on the team by Declan Moore who gave a good account of themselves. Kenny Doran could not travel as he has commitments for six nights of the week and rests on a Sunday.
Sympathy is extended to Martin Family, Cloone on the death their sister Mary Ellen and to Bobby Toland and family Circle on the death of his brother Charlie (St. Johnston).

Coyle’s Golf Society

Coyle’s golf society had their outing to Newtownstewart on Sunday 3rd June. Winners were: 1st Martin Mc Fadden, 2nd Gerald Mc Daid, 3rd Stephen Page. Front nine, Edward Lynch, back nine Barry Farmer. Outing sponsored by Paddy Mc Guigan, building contractor. Next outing to Letterkenny on the 8th June.

Birth
Congratulations to Tayna and Kieran 0′Donnell, Orchard Grove, Newtowncunningham on the birth of their baby girl on Monday 28th May.

Wedding

The beautiful wedding took place on June 1 in Newtowncunningham of Emma Holmes and Martin Golden.
Emma is the daughter of Con & Betty Holmes, Newtown and Martin the son of Mary & Martin Golden, St Johnston.
After a beautiful wedding ceremony officiated by Monsignor Carr and Fr O’ Doherty, guests enjoyed a lovely reception in The Gateway Hotel, Buncrana.

Death
The death took place in Letterkenny hospital on Thursday 31st May of John Devenney, Colehill, Newtowncunningham. His funeral Mass took place on Saturday 2nd June at 3pm in the Church of All Saints, Newtowncunningham. The Requiem Mass was concelebrated by Fr. Mc Menamin, Fr. Mc Carron, Fr. 0′ Doherty and Fr. Mc Hugh nephew of the deceased. Internment took place in the adjoining cemetery.

First Communion

Burt, Killea, Newtowncunningham branch are holding their AGM on Thursday 14th June ‘07 in the Mount Errigal Hotel, Letterkenny at 8pm. Everyone welcome.

Scoil Cholmcille

Part-time cleaner wanted for Scoil Cholmcille, Newtowncunningham to begin on Monday 27th August ‘07, three hours per day, five days per week.  Applications in writing to the “Principal”, before 3pm on Friday 1st. June ‘07.
